The National HIDTA Director’s Association (NHDA) is committed to preserving and growing the HIDTA program. The 2026 President’s budget proposal seeks to cut the HIDTA program by $102 million dollars, meaning less resources will be available to law enforcement in our communities. The proposal also seeks to move the program from the Office of national Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) to the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs. The following letters have been submitted by various law enforcement and prevention associations across the country, urging Congress to preserve the HIDTA program to continue to support safe communities through the disruption and dismantlement of drug trafficking organizations.
The proliferation of drugs and violence associated with trafficking requires the successful implementation of the HIDTA program and the NHDA’s primary priority is the reauthorization of the HIDTA Program through the Office of National Drug Control Policy. This would enable the continuation of one of the most successful law enforcement programs in the country’s history while maintaining successful collaboration between federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement partners.
